Don Carlos is a recently inaugurated hotel a few blocks from the Plaza Mayor with a revamped medieval charm (the building, however, dates only to 1803). The original rock walls are exposed in places where plaster has been made to look as if it fell away a hundred years ago, arched windows are lovely with stained glass, swirling iron grill-work garnishes railings and window seals and pleasing sun-baked tile like that of Saltillo covers the floors of its rooms and public spaces. The sleeping quarters are uniform and simple, colored in peach, as is the building’s exterior façade, and equipped with new bathrooms, television and DSL Internet connections.
